Book Release Ceremony — “Waste to Wealth”

CSIR-Central Salt & Marine Chemicals Research Institute (CSIR-CSMCRI), Bhavnagar, had a book release ceremony for its most recent Hindi publication, “Waste to Wealth” (Kachre Se Kanchan), on 21 November 2025. Dr Kannan Srinivasan, Director of CSIR-CSMCRI, oversaw the programme. Dr Geetha Vani Rayasam, Director of the National Institute of Science Communication and Policy Research (CSIR-NIScPR), New Delhi, was the Chief Guest.

Chief Scientist Dr B Ganguly gave the opening remarks. The book’s writers, Dr DD Ozha and Dr JR Chunawala, emphasised the book’s importance in advancing the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan goal. They stressed that the book highlights research from many CSIR institutes on turning trash into useful goods and offers insightful information on the management of solid, plastic, electronic, biological, and chemical wastes.

In her address, Dr Geetha Vani Rayasam emphasised the impact of popularising science to foster a scientific mindset and raise public awareness. She promoted the use of a variety of socially relevant strategies for successful science communication. Dr Kannan Srinivasan spoke in detail on CSMCRI’s active involvement in creating technologies for adding value to solid wastes, such as the manufacturing of potash fertiliser.

Dr KB Pandey, Principal Scientist, CSIR-CSMCRI, said that the institute has a long history of using a variety of scientific methods to serve society, and one of its significant achievements is the dissemination of R&D discoveries through books and popular science articles. Dr JR Chunawala presented the vote of gratitude to wrap up the programme.
