To convert waste to wealth, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), R&D Center, Noida, has collaborated with CSIR-Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (CSIR-IICT), Hyderabad, and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to install a Commercial-scale Compressed Biogas (CBG) plant for treating the agricultural biomass. The CSIR-IICT has already developed and patented Anaerobic Gas Lift Reactor (AGR) which is a high rate biomethanation technology for generating biogas and bio manure from organic solid waste. This biomethanation technology is operated at the Bowenpally, Secunderabad, in the vegetable market yard. Now the organisations ventured into the agreement to leverage the Anaerobic Gas Lift Reactor (AGR).
The project aims to develop a pilot-scale plant in the first phase, however, the development of a novel digester in the second phase.
